My Heaven's Bliss Poem by Don Parker

My Heaven's Bliss

When eventide has settled in
And robbins are all warblin',
One man gropes for pipe and slippers,
Another seeks a plate of kippers.
Just give me love and tender kisses,
For that is where my Heaven's Bliss is.

As ev'ning shadows lengthen more
And faithful Spot sits by the door,
One man snoozes... snuffles gently,
Another leaves to drive his Bentley.
Just give me warmth from spouse and wee'uns,
For that is where my Heaven's bliss comes.

And as the sun sinks lower west,
And birdies now have flew to nest,
One man reaches for candle snuffer,
Another for his nose de-stuffer.
Just give me kids all tucked in bed
And waiting for their story read.

And as I kiss each tender brow
And say, 'It's time for sleep the now.'
I raise each blanket slightly more.
Then gently close the bedroom door,
To pad on down to loving Missiz,
For that is where my Heaven's bliss is.

Embers now are burning cooler,
Coffee warms with walnut cruller,
Heads are nodding... room grows cooler,
Sandman proves to be the ruler.
When Missiz stirs and says, 'What's this? '
Then I reply, 'My Heaven's bliss! '
