My Hero Poem by Eunice Masumbuko

My Hero

A million lines written
A thousand words said,
But the feeling remains
Stronger than ever,
Darker than sin
Looking me right in the eye with a mocking expression.

How could I have,
Even for a minute,
Thought that I could condemn it into exile?
It is who I have become.
My comfort, my joy
MY HERO!
That feeling saved me from a broken heart.
It saved me from lies
It saved me from those selfish people
It saved me from all pain.

That feeling whispers beautiful things
and I doubt not a single one
Because that feeling is the only constant in my life
That feeling has remained true
It has never left me
It has never betrayed me
It has never frightened me
It has never made me cry
And I respect it for that.

Even when I leave,
When I turn to other feelings,
I always find myself craving its embrace
To feel the heat of its passion
To bask in its tenderness
Because in that feeling
Is who I am
