My Home With You Poem by Lorraine Licona

My Home With You

Watching the men building the house
I thought about how one day
we too would have a place to call our home
Not in the city where life crushes your soul
and leaves you dying without ambition
Not where the daily routine strips you of all emotions
Where the almighty dollar is the ultimate goal
Not where the need for a car is the beginning and end of life
Or the greed for material things warps your mind
till you truly believe they are a necessity
Not in a place where the endless telephone calls
remind you of the bills you are unable to pay
And the race to gain more money to pay them
beats you down to an exhausted wreck
Where your mind is focused only on the getting and giving
as life demands more of you than you are able to give
Where stress and despair are your constant companions
No, my love
I have seen a paradise that will not leave my heart
It pulls on me like a force I can’t control
To think I could disappear from all these crazy fools
Never to be found
and let them slowly destroy themselves
while I laugh to myself - a free spirit
Like watching animals pacing in their cages
Here there are no bars on my windows
No locks on my doors
My house will be a fortress for my love and my sanity
Constructed piece by piece with loving care
Every inch a workmanship
Simple
But crafted by experienced hands
A token of our life together
Music will flow always from it’s walls
And peace of mind will guard it’s entrance
Yes, my love
I dreamed a house in my heart
That I could share forever with you
Please come and share my dream
