Although our parents 'gave us' when we were young
We squandered those days in the sun
When all was bright and no future threat,
All salad days
And a war already won
And no problems-at least not yet.
Yes, those halcyon days, ignored and betrayed,
With bracing winds that evolved
And so didn't last,
Now hard to slog on-
but back then it wasn't yet known-
Of their treasure that was once in my grasp.
