My Life Poem by Riddhi Sood

My Life

Rating: 5.0

Ambitions - they say everyone's got one
And it must be fulfilled
I too have one
But, according to the world, it must be killed.

Why is money so important?
Even more than internal satisfaction
Its a good servant but a bad master
But those who believe it, only a fraction.

Does everyone proceed with a goal in mind?
If yes, then why isn't everyone successful?
I know they only want me to be independent
But their behavior, they should be remorseful.

I have chosen something
And I know its not bad
But I really don't know why
It makes them sad.

The past has already gone
The future hasn't come yet
But plan it now, right now
Or else your life will be destroyed, they bet.

Why not cherish the present?
Why not forget all worries?
But no, they compare me to others
'Look at your cousin, how he hurries'.

I know what I am doing
I am well aware of it
But they don't care
'Cos I am not enough 'fit'.

Why can't I just be me?
Why do I have to be tensed all the time?
I think I am grown up enough
And this life, its mine.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The dilemmas one has to face in life
COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Chinedu Dike 04 March 2016

To conceive of life without difficulties is an existential absurdity. It take much courage to be 'me' (that is oneself) and resist the bandwagon effect. The most important competition one has is striving for the individual's future to exceed his/her past and present. An insightful piece of poetry that depicts confusion and dilemma imposed upon an individual by family and other social forces, well articulated and insightfully penned with conviction. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing Riddhi. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
