My Mind's Eye Poem by Harry S Smith

My Mind's Eye

Watch me pitch from my mind's eye,
T'ward hammer headed foe: a cry:
‘Try sentence, Try condemn me,
For I'm a true veined freedom! '

Watch me go wherein you reign,
With brutal gesture: Thought inane,
Watch me grow and father there,
Things of beauty: Things immortal

Watch me summon ancient myth,
A flying horse as black as night,
Watch us ride: weld, unite,
Over shadow and despair.

Watch us fly o'er storm cracked sky,
And dance a spell unspoken,
Watch us spark o'er Rainbow's Arc,
Til hurt and sorrow's broken.

Watch us steal the silver'd moon,
And don its shining raiment,
Watch us then light beams become,
Amidst the starry void.

Watch us build a ship of gold,
For lovers crossed to sail in,
Watch us wrathful waters course,
Dark tower'd seas assailing.

Watch us catch a love sublime,
And surf its waves of kindness,
Watch us channel mercy's flow,
To heal the lost and mindless.

Watch us as to war advance,
With weapons of Hope & Laughter,
Watch us hurl a piercing lance,
Forged of angels' tears.

Watch us dazzle the blazing sun,
With battle armour bright,
Watch us fight for earth renew'd,
Til death's defeat is done.

Watch us seize sweet Victory pure,
Amidst clear trumpet calls,
Watch us shout, proclaim and state,
Love's glorious triumph,
O'er spite-fuelled hate.
