My Most Precious Gifts Poem by nicola forbes

My Most Precious Gifts

The most precious gifts I've ever held
so small inside my arms
The very second you were born
you wooed me with your charms
The sweetest smiles I'd ever seen
the shiniest of eyes
I'll climb a million mountains
to answer to your cries
With ten such tiny fingers
and ten fat stumpy toes
My heart would now accompany you
wherever your heart goes
You reached your many milestones
As I looked on oh so proud
Although I know you were embarrassed
when I cheered you on so loud
The hardest thing I've ever done
was let you live your lives
When I wanted so to shield you
from the sadness and the strife's
But I'm still here and always will
be here to hold you tight
you'll never get too old for me
to lead you through the night
I'm in the wings as you walk on
to independent lives
I'll watch you make your choices
picking husbands, finding wives
I'll love the many children
that you bring for me to hold
There will always be a place for you
to come in from the cold
So walk through life and know you are
so special n my heart
You'll never grow too big for life
to tear that bond apart
And know I never could have dreamt
how great you all would be
And the proudest words I'll ever say
Are you belong to me x
