My Neighbor's Cat Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

My Neighbor's Cat

Each time I get ready to go for a car ride
I glance next door to an upper window
Sometimes it appears that no one is inside
On a neighborly day… it fills with a glow

Today a cat is on the sill with a musing stare
In a stately pose of repose like a sphinx
Sitting motionlessly… yet very much aware
Surveying me... I wonder what he thinks

His large green eyes are expression resistant
Warmth radiates from his striped orange fur
Solid clear transparency keeps us distant…
I would love to pet him now and hear his purr

A smile forms on my face in a telepathic way
With a turn of the key…the engine starts
I wonder what he'll do for the rest of the day
Will he remain by the open blinds after I depart
