My Solitary Days Poem by Rimni chakravarty

My Solitary Days

Being single do matter; you may not know how to flatter
So you preferred being single all your life; you wanted peace and no strife
So you decided to hold your head high must be independent and strong
But you forgot how at times you become dependent on your fate that goes all wrong
Life seems a never ending sad song.

Being single do matter; nobody to care for you
And in your room torn as you shatter; at the thought none to feel for you
This is hard.bitter but true; you wanted to smile; and cheer all the while
So never bothered to tie the knot coz you may cause problem later
When you fall sick, need financial help, you become a burden for the other
Who may once had said ‘I love you true'
But these words prove hollow in blue.

You preferred to be single
So could not mingle
Like the other women who giggle, laugh, wear vermillion on their forehead
Yes they want to project have companion when lie in bed
They prove in life wherever go of their might
How as a wife, a mother and a woman all odds they fight
No not with an air of dignity
As dignified they stand all alone
Dignity will not help them earn undue favor
That with their gaudy jewellery, make up and vermillion they cover.
I however prefer to be single
As dignity stops me to mingle
Without seeking advantages
I prefer a life of all the disadvantages.
