My Son Poem by PRAVEEN KUMAR English Poems

My Son

Along the relay run,
I needed someone
To handover the baton;
The role had none
To take the baton
For almost a decade,
Then I saw him come.

Though so late,
He came too soon
In impatient haste
With brief doubts
About reaching home
And took his time
To settle down.

It was pure glory
Thereafter I found;
It was fullmoon
All day-nights for me;
Bright light around -
His smiles and talks,
Attempts to stand up.

Adored and liked,
Little masters around,
Their parents too
Gathered around him,
Took to their arms;
He was sheer joy
To me and all.

How can such a gem
Fall back in school?
Teachers' fond child,
Light of their eyes,
He dazzled in school,
Apportioned rare primes
To mark brilliance.

Grew larger than large,
Barged huge barriers,
He proved his mettle;
He flew out of land
To win accolades,
Unheard of paeans,
Brought glory back home.

He is huge comfort
From the day he saw light,
A huge contentment,
That filled hollow burrows,
Gaped large within me;
He tuned my goalpost,
Showed new horizon.

He shall run relay,
Take baton from me
To keep the run going
And run the line growing;
He is my hope
And brings fulfillment,
And he is my light.

I lighted my lamp
From my forefathers,
My son lights from me
To continue the line;
I lighted his lamp,
I handed over the baton,
And he shall carry on.

I know deep within,
He, better than me,
Shall carry on the line;
His tools do suffice
To light his long route
Along the life's terrain,
I ensured, I presume.
