My Vacation Poem by Randy McClave

My Vacation

For vacation to Florida they are driving
While thousands more vacationers are arriving,
As they excitedly are heading to the sunshine state
Which is always their yearly destination date.
They always go for the beaches and the sunshine
And to the amusement parks and on seafood to dine,
So, they head where their friends and family and neighbors goes
And what they do, everybody else does and knows.
While they are driving on the crowded highways
Hitting toll booths, railroad crossings and many other delays,
While they're stressed and worried and taxing
I'm reading, writing, daydreaming, I'm just relaxing.
Many miles over their heads I'm flying
While they're hitting potholes, traffic jams and crying,
And while their sanity they are trying to maintain and keep
I'm miles in the air above them dining or stretched out fast asleep.
Soon, I'll arrive to my final destination
In a different state, but most likely in a different nation,
And while I head to my scheduled abode
They most likely will still on the road.
While they're still waiting impatiently to arrive at the hotel
Soon I'll be arriving at a ryokan or at a castle to dwell,
And while they're still looking for many more miles ahead
Soon, I'm arriving to Japan or to Scotland instead.
