Myth Or Real Poem by ER Bron Chiong, RSW

Myth Or Real

The old fat and ugly witch is just a myth
but in our modern-day town of Roocab
the old fat and ugly witch is so real
that people talk about all the time
I don't know how this tale had started
but to the people of our town swore
that this is true—not a mere rumor
the truth of an old fat and ugly witch
that lives within their midst all the time
and who am I to say if it's true or false

Since the beginning of time, they say
there was no such thing as this--
an old fat and ugly witch in their place
This starts when a widower decided to wed
an old fat and ugly woman from the south
the elder sister of his nephew's wife
recommends her to be his uncle's bride
an awkward romance took place immediately
between the two that ended in marriage
of three to five such convenient years

Everything seems to be reasonable
the motive of the marriage wasn't doubtful
but as the days turned to years
the real intent was finally shown
that the old fat and ugly woman
had planned ahead to eliminate him
in the best appropriate usual period
to claim the sole material possession
of the husband's small fortune
acquired together with his first wife

Finally that fateful day came fast
early morning of a fine clear day
the husband was found unconscious
and rush to the hospital for immediate help
he perished after a long week due to failure
his organs kept on ignoring the medications
the old fat and ugly witch acted as if she's sad
a fatal blow of losing a God-fearing husband
who redeemed her from a past solitary life
to a much better status she now enjoys

The question in my mind is—
is this narrative real or myth
of the old fat and ugly witch
I still don't know the answer
better ask the people of Roocab
they know much more than me
about the old fat and ugly witch
of which I heard many times from them
in our advance age of technology
is there a place for things such as this
