husn kii saadgii meN kyaa kuch thaa

(naaz : playfulness, blandishment; be-gaangii : not dependent upon; husn : beauty)

laakh raaheN thiiN, laakh jalve the
ahd-e-aavaargii meN kyaa kuch thaa

(jalve : miracles; ahd-e-aavaargii : time of wandering around)

aaNkh khulte hii chhup gayii har shai
aalam-e-beKhudii meN kyaa kuch thaa

(shai : a thing, an object; aalam-e-be-Khudii : state of unconsciousness about this world)

yaad haiN marhale muhabbat ke
haaye ! us be-kalii meN kyaa kuch thaa

(marhale : problems; be-kalii : state of restlessness)

kitne biite dinoN kii yaad aayii
aaj terii kamii meN kyaa kuch thaa

kitne maanuus log yaad aaye
subh kii chaaNdnii meN kyaa kuch thaa

(maanuus : known, acquainted)

raat bhar ham na so sake "Nasir"
parda-e-Khaamshii meN kyaa kuch thaa
