Name In Sand Poem by AtreyaSarma Uppaluri

Name In Sand

My name etched in sand yonder
Has been washed out, to no wonder
Un-bonded sands have a loose way.
So the un-kind waters swept it away
Watering down my heightened spirits, alas!
The doodle had been nailed by my sweet lass.

It is still a greater wonder…you haven’t yet said:
“Worry not, my dear! Do keep your head.
Your sweet name stands impressed in my heart
Right to its innermost core like a work of art
Like the tingling arrow of a timely Cupid
Indelible and shining for ever it lies there hid.

“Un-like the waters over the sands that billowed rude
The fluids of my heart ever reinforce, in a curing mood,
Your cemented name on my heart’s steady walls.
My heart never beats the mechanical ‘lub-dub, lub-dub’
It ever pulsates with the romantic ‘love-love, love-love’”

I had long forgotten my name; trace of it remains none;
Lost it in the ceaseless chant of your enchanting one.
Oh! Why have you pricked me recall my erased name?
Why to me this unsettling stroke of heart, my dear dame
When I could gift my gentle strokes to your tresses velvety
With my head rested in your heavenly lap, oh, my deity
As the moonlit canopy open, wide, and blushed, …
Would cover and soak our melding embraces gushed?

What a prickly rose!
What a rosy prick!
