Is the me in this poem really me?
Or more likely, is the speaker
whose thoughts the reader
follows with dismay or pleasure
the creation of the me who sits
and spins out of whole cloth
the creature you think is me?

Are there then the poet or the writer,
the persona or first person character
in poem, story or novel (the narrator) ?
One person adopting the speech
of a phantom to convey truth?
Or are there more?

And you think writing can be done
without forethought?
