Nervous Self, You Poem by Lucas Pate

Nervous Self, You

'What a guy' you say
Playing it cool by day
You won't be around when it comes to be May

Why don't you ask me to stay?
I never asked to be pushed away

There's up and there's downs
Frankly, you're giving me the run around

Nervous smile,
Won't you stay for awhile

You need your space
And that's A-okay
Who are you running from?
Me? Or your true self?

Nothing ever comes easy
Eyes filled with past regret
You're too scared I'm willing to bet
Everything you're scared of I represent

Nervous smile,
Why don't you stay for awhile?
Reverse the dial, return the miles
Please stay for awhile

Don't wait until it's too late
I don't believe in fate
Fragile ice is what we skate
Don't expect me to forgo the wait

If you insist, I won't be pissed
Sighs and long goodbyes
Somethings are best left unsaid

Nervous smile,
Go on your way
I have nothing left to say
There's no hope on this day

The story so far
Writing the ending, turn the page
Push me away, run from yourself

Sometimes the best response is no response at all
For your sake, I have nothing left to articulate

Nervous smile,
Why don't you stay for awhile
Have mercy, have heart
Meet me in the sial
'What a guy' you say
Please won't you stay
Even if for a little while
