Timekeeper Poem by Lucas Pate

Timekeeper

When you said 'I'm down, show me something beautiful', I came alive
I was feeling well
You were just as I remembered
You gained a British accent
Time had treated you well
We talked about your travels and the colour of your hair
You brought up how shy I once was
Things I thought you cared not to remember
every detail shared
In that moment, I felt invincible
I was smiling and so full of laughter
Like all good things, the night came to an end
And you were gone
A great time, but a reminder that everything I care about drifts away in the end
And in the end, being alone is inevitable
Timekeeper, rewind to less lonely days
Timekeeper, fast forward so I don't have to feel this way
Oh timekeeper, please take away the regret
That British accent lingers in my mind
I'll think of you from time to time
In the end, everything I love goes away
I'll be okay, at least I think
So don't delay, go on your way
I've come to embrace the loneliness I thoroughly hate
