Nesting Song Thrush! Poem by Denis Martindale

Nesting Song Thrush!

While on a Nature Walk today, I spied a nesting thrush,
And while new life was on its way, she wasn't in a rush.
To think of how that life would cope within this world to live,
Bestowed on me a hint of hope at what the Lord would give.
By day and night, without one word, the gift of life goes on,
Until at last, for each small bird, its little life is gone.
But until then, it flies and soars, just like an aeroplane,
Until, of course, life takes its course, then shall not fly again.

I couldn't fly, I've got no wings, no feathers at each side,
Yet I sing like each birdie sings, with my mouth open wide.
And I can whistle upbeat tunes when memories remind,
In the mornings and afternoons, if I feel so inclined.
I've got a camera taking snaps, and it can zoom real close,
And I can use my photo apps for almost every pose.
When I get home, I'll do my best to get the clearest view,
Then paint the scene so you're impressed and glad I saw this through.

Its title is Nesting Song Thrush! Yes, that will do for now.
And I'm so proud that I could blush, yet that's too much somehow.
I'll paint that bird I saw today, contented there alone,
And come what may, prepared to stay until new life has shown.
Life's such a precious gift, we know, as Nature Walks still prove,
It's what we reap from what we sow, and that's a wholesome truth.
My new painting will tell the tale of creatures great and small,
Because, no matter what the scale, each life's a miracle!

This nature poem by the Poemhunter poet Denis Martindale
is about the wildlife painting by UK artist Stephen Gayford.
It was written toward the end of April, when the Spring season
brings us the beautiful flowers in our gardens once again.
There's nothing like a gentle Nature Walk on a warm sunny day.
The poem celebrates how the photographer and artist share the
beauty and the wonder of new life, literally waiting in the wings.
