Never Built To Last Poem by Sven Rhoads

Never Built To Last

I feel the venom in my veins tonight
It keeps me from the releasing sleep
Setting fire underneath my skin
With this hate that I now will keep
I've tried to let the love pour in
But I've been laying on a bed of nails
Continuously I keep on bleeding
As my hearts beats find ways to fail

All broken are the ties to you
The human race, I want to shed my skin
How I want to be rid of you
And finally feel the warmth within
But it's never built to last

When the sun is black as midnight
I can no longer hold anyone close
When each morning I abhor the light
Like barbedwire raked on my soul

Kiss me goodbye and I'll shed no tears
This life has risen a dead man in me
Buried is the heart for the very last time
This is what has always meant to be
