Never Forgiving Poem by Mark Heathcote

Never Forgiving

There you are with your bible.
Heavy-hearted, full of tears
There you are, with your scolding words.
Never forgiving
Always abandoning your teachings
There you are, with your anguished cries.
There you are with your hateful thoughts.
Never forgiving
Always rejecting your better selves
There you are, with all your hard knocks.
Wondering -what's it all been for?
There you are, with your lonely reflections.
Never forgiving
Always discarding
Lovers, family, and friends
Because you know best.
You know what's best for you.
Never forgiving
Always abandoning
Always rejecting
Always discarding
Lovers, family, and friends
Because you know best.
You know what's best for you.
Because you know best.
You know what's best for you and me too.
With your bible armed in your self-righteous hand.
There you are, with your anguished cries.
There you are with your hateful thoughts.
Never forgiving
Always rejecting your better selves
There you are, with all your hard knocks.
Wondering -what's it all been for?
