New Year Gmt+2 Poem by Keith Garrod

New Year Gmt+2

While you were still sleeping, my year had begun
My next twelve months to circle the sun
Will end just before yours do
Unless I'm undone!

Well, that's not quite right
We're all on the same Earth
And we measure our years
From the day of our birth

But Gregory XIII
Had it decreed
Tho' the other 12 Greg'rys
Would not have agreed

That all the earth's people
With this revolution
Of the earth on its axis
Make a good resolution

To live better this year
Than they did in the past
To take on new habits
For as long as they last

But isn't each New Day
Just one more beginning
Of another New Year
If the Earth is still spinning?

One thing is for certain
That one day will be
The first day of the last year
That you'll ever see

There's no reason to think
That it's January first
Or Monday or Sunday
Or the day of your birth

So, better be safe
And assume it's today
And live your life fully
The best possible way
