Nigerian Frustration Poem by Frank Adie

Nigerian Frustration

If you are a Nigerian
You must be familiar with frustration
Frustration stemming from unstable power
Is something every Nigerian is bound to suffer.

We live in constant fear of electricity seizure
When you need it most, it goes off and spoils your pleasure
NEPA as it is called has tormented Nigerians
It has been our major source of frustration.

You may not see light for a whole week
And when it comes they take it quick
Whether you have light or not, the bill will come
And what they charge you is worrisome.

You must pay for what you didn't use
Else NEPA officials will storm your house
They come on very short notice
With their ladder of unjust justice.

One officer will climb your pole
Another will be down playing another role
Bribery and corruption will do the rest
A craft we know how to do best.

Nothing is as frustrating as NEPA
Frustration that plagues not only the pauper
It is felt by the rich and the poor
It has tormented us to the core.
