Night Fall! Poem by Navod Jayasuriya

Night Fall!

Rating: 5.0

I evermore had some pressing business,
For I adored most being the witness,
Of such a lovely case in which,
I almost wanted to be a part of it.

What feels when a lovely scherzo runs on a rhythm?
And that's how I felt when she strolled,
With a supreme poise in her glide,
She is a guardian angel.

What feels when one perceived the sun setting?
At the coastal side with some remarks of the gloomy arts,
And that's how it was felt,
when she decided lickety-split,
Leaving the one who loved her most,
She stepped and reckoned the denouement of the play.

Then I goofed-off and idled in uncertain ways,
With a conscience-stricken remorse I never had,
And that remorse was bound with a miscellany of consternation,
And after all the above circumstances,
I frustrated in each and every instance.

I had nothing left to loose, but memories,
Day and night, a fortnight passed,
One can say I was imbued with feelings of love,
But though I was, now I'm impassive.

The time is an unstoppable train,
It always travels forward and not backward,
And our lives are parts of it,
Which the train carries them with it.

It was the most impossible task I ever met,
In my dwelling period I found it too much difficult,
Golly! this is an addling type of matter I didn't expect,
Like a shadow it followed my path,
Like a night fall it brought the darkness,
Then I always wanted to drive away the gloom,
And wipe off the humdrum moments,
And also deteriorated shambles indeed!

Through the whole time I learnt what loneliness is,
Such a doldrum, Alas! it was too much with the rut,
And that all happened long ago,
Now I have a propensity for composure.

Past decades I was a free bird out of the cage,
I wandered many a places,
The places where I could find peace and harmony,
And to dwell a lonesome life where,
No any company exists.

Then for the last time I followed the old path which.
Finally brought me where she left,
It was certainly after two decades visiting the place,
And that eventide I felt the same and no difference,
The place was serene and calm and glamorous,
As it evermore used to be.

It was by a wonderful lake,
And besides a dune brimful of 'Forget-me-not'
While I was strolling in the mild wind,
A sudden shriek came out along with the gusty gale,

Getting addled, I then had a descrying glance,
And I saw a damsel in distress,
A lass who was quite old and so as I was,
And her hair was bedecked with flowers,
And she had fallen down panting with no support.

So then I made a beeline for her forthwith,
And I saw that she had hardly been beaned by someone,
And then I helped her with the bruise,
And she raised her head for the final stage of thanking,
But then, oh! both went with amazement,
And we dwelt upon each other for a long time,
And that's all, that's the end! !

This Poem of Desire thoroughly traces a relationship that stops short of complete fulfllment but still conveys the wonder and excitement of our emotional lives. Your poet's instinct was right in setting this poem after NIGHT FALL in a nocturnal world. So many great poems have been written about this nocturnal world in which we live a larger life than daytime reality There's magic in the NIGHT and magic in the POETRY but it's a natural magic of heightened emotions, not supernatural events. The atmosphere of your poem enveloped me and I was a believer in the natural magic of desire and love for the poem's duration.

Usually I have a habit of looking at the length of the poem before starting to read. If I get the feeling, Oh, its too long, I skip it. So far, I could not stick to that with your poems ET. There must be something in it. Well, I too enjoyed yours. Thank you for sharing. x

When I read you I always feel like I am reading some poetry of Wordsworth and Coelridge era. Have yor come across these lines of Coleridge in 'The Nightingale'; 'In wood and thicket, over the wide grove, They answer and provoke each other's songs With skirmish and cepricious passagings And murmurs musical and swft jug jug And one low piping sound more sweeter than all - - What time the moon was lost behind a cloud, Hath heard a pause of silence; till the moon Emerging, hath awakened earth and sky with one sensation, and those wakeful birds have all burst forth in choral minstresly, As if some sudden gale had swept at once a hundred airy harps! ' Likewise, I enjoy yours as well.
