Nihilism Of The Birthday Boy Poem by Arnab Das

Nihilism Of The Birthday Boy

I have been drinking since my birthday
And hadn't stopped my celebrations yet.
For we shall meet our ends anyway,
At the beach or the backyard of a mate.

On that day my wife took me to a restaurant
Where the theme was completely dark,
With waiters, clumsy, blind and truant,
But with their uniform scarlet and stark,

I constantly feel nearer, nearer to my end.
And that's more of a reason to make merry,
To order some pancakes with honey blend
And double that with two glasses of sherry!

For we shall meet them somewhere at last;
Me and the moments that obliterate me.
And in smithy of pyre my body will be cast:
My drunken body, filthy, rotten and free.
