No Baseball Poem by Ray Hansell

No Baseball

I used to go to the stadium
To watch my favorite team
Bot now all that's left
Is a memory and a dream

The memories of games gone by
Dreams that I'll see them play again
When that will happen is any bodies guess
We'll just have to wait until then

The stands would be filled with people
Booing mixed with cheers
People eating popcorn
While other drink a beer

But it has changed so much
Fans not allowed in the stands
Because of Covid-19
All fans have been banned

What a sorry site to see
Teams playing on the field
With the stands completely empty
Until this virus can be healed

Maybe this time next year
We'll be allowed through the gates
To sit and watch a game
In this very happy place

To hear the sound of a ball hitting a glove
The crack of the bat as it meets the ball
Fans on their feet screaming
As the ball takes flight over the wall

You just cannot beat
The smells and the sound
That eminent from a ball park
A most sacred piece of ground
