No Sale Poem by Dennis Ryan

No Sale

November 22,2002

On a day of few sales,
a sales clerk gives a little girl
a simple, wooden cat, a simply-colored cat
of white and black. This simple act
gladdened the girl's heart,
as it did the clerk's,
who wrote a poem about it,
and rang up "no sale".
