Nostalgia: Love In Rain Poem by Bireswar Halder

Nostalgia: Love In Rain

In the ceaseless torrents of shower, I am confined to a cottage
And mesmerized by the rhythmic sound of patters of rain falling
It's like a beautiful alaap of a sitar maestro at the beginning
And slowly turns into jode with its ascending layas
Finally finishes with a jhala having speedy melodious tunes.
I stare at the glass panes, water trickling down from top to bottom
In an unparalleled way touching each other with fun and joy
And mingling with one for a boundless joy and happiness
It seems a painter is making nice sketches on panes at random.
I recapitulate and introspect on my childhood memories of yours
It flushes one after another - covering our heads with banana leaves
And childhood dancing in showers holding hands of each other
Floating paper boats, to see which one gets capsized first and clapping
I still hear you lilting song with your melodious voice
I feel your soft but loving touch and my face blushes
What a madness of youth - restlessness of two young souls
What a beautiful drenched body with water dripping from long hair
Only your shivering lips marked a long untold desire
Lovely showers remind me - first love that you offered long ago
Everything moves on its own way but I am in total solitude
Sweet memories and detachment bring a lot of unbearable pain
Outside showers will stop sometimes but not the inside ones
Oh dear, my tearful eyes are riveted on to the road for your arrival
Please come and hug me once to put to rest all my grief and pains.
