Not Darkness, But The Silence I Fear Poem by Nusrat Perveen

Not Darkness, But The Silence I Fear

The clouds all dark, no stars between,
I stand, afraid to move trembling within;
it's not the darkness that I fear,
but the silence that leaves nothing to hear.

The silence of the shore,
as if a wave returned;
smashing all, leaving nothing to turn.

The waves that come and go,
leaving its shadow in the days to show;
the shadow of pain and of sufferings,
of unfulfilled desires and broken dreams.
The shadow of night spreading all alone,
of spotted moon and stars who moan;
the shadow of past and mistakes thus made,
of grudges heart holds and fear that never fade.

And I stand still, waiting the rays to shine,
the fear to fade, breaking the silence of mine;
and I stand still, waiting the waves to rise again,
to haunt my empty soul, filling it with pain.

And I wait to be alive, to be able to hear,
For it's not darkness, but the silence I fear.
