Not Every Poem Is About You Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Not Every Poem Is About You

Rating: 1.0

You're such a sensitive person
Who I value so much it's true
I have to be more careful
and edit my thoughts
and walk on eggshells when I do
Because some feeling that I have
Something I say is bound to make you blue
But Angel, not every poem is about you

In a world that felt lost and lonely
I care about my friends
Good friends are rare and precious
so difficult to find
And you're a friend who stays sofly on my mind
And you linger in my heart
So to you I try always to be kind
But Darling, please don't read my mind

I know women better than I know men
Though I grew up with them
Women are more true
And their emotions so dear and sweet
They fill a missing part of me that otherwise incomplete
And don't you know by now I care about you
I value you so soft and dear
Those words were not about you, let me take away your fear

An apology to me you don't need to make
Neither should I apologize for being real instead of fake
You're very clear to me that you are my friend
Didn't you say you'd always freindship lend
And now for no reason I sit here feeling blue
Thinking something I wrote about another upset you
You should realize, that not every poem is about you
Though every word of it is true

So now I'm upset inside
I feel my heart beating hard
and my insides getting tight
These snap reactions to things perceived
I hope you realize that they're not right
I'm not here to hurt you, to tell you what to feel
I think our friendship is so nice and is the real deal
Wish you wouldn't treat me that way
I know it's not the way you mean to be
All I ever have for you is a hug
But you don't see

But maybe now you do.
Not every poem is about you!
Though I care very much about you too.
