Not Everyone As We Know Poem by Francis Duggan

Not Everyone As We Know

Not everyone as we know will know of wealth and renown
And not everyone as we know can be best of the town
The winner takes the glory and the most of the praise
And only to the winner our toasting glass we raise
That we all need recognition is such a human thing
And we do feel very happy when others our praises sing
And of emulating someone great many people do daydream
And never parades or bonfires lit for the losing football team
The losers are forgotten their stories books never sell
And the winners are remembered as we all know too well
Everyone wants to be successful but life is not that way
For of winners and of losers we hear of every day
Not everyone as we know others do celebrate
And there's a huge difference between greatness and wanting to be great.
