Not Quite As Good As New Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Not Quite As Good As New

Brad's peer group had a whale of a time
What they can remember of it
Cherry pick remnants of youthful self-referential escapades

Somewhere there's a hell of party going on
The same one I have been hearing since 1984, eternally out of reach
Always in the distance, elusive and wayward and far

I am sure the people at this party look the same as I imagined them in 1984
While the tangible people, everyone you know and see, are not quite as good as new
Most have heard the fragments of a shindig that brought the temple's roof down

The full narrative is the perfection of make believe
Everyone has a well-mixed drink in their hand
Everyone communicates effectively with the opposite sex

Everyone revels in the exquisite timing of social flawlessness
A myth is what it is when there are no mistakes - No fights, no one gets sick in the plant pots on the balcony
I can still hear the echoes of something that probably never happened
