Not Too Long Ago On Earth And Elsewhere Poem by Etienne Charilaou

Not Too Long Ago On Earth And Elsewhere

‘Twas the eve of fest;
with all doing their best
to have fun drinking mead and beers,
eating their fill of the meat of deers.
Someone said, ‘Sing us a song! '
Hilda began to sing;
sounds did cheerfully ring
from the stone amid the fiery crackle.
Even below a prisoner in a shackle
forgot where he now lay;
sharing dimly in the mirth.
In other places scattered on Earth
similar merriments were afoot;
other kings in other halls;
served by other thralls.

Winding vines injecting paralyzing venom;
some eyes on the prey, some on the blueness,
some on the thickets surrounding the meadow.
Another appears, the garland is a friendly purple,
vines soon touch, messages are interchanged.
‘The gathering will commence, approach.'

Homuncules dance and laugh in their revels.
They are so much like us yet so far away.
