Notes For 2018 Poem by RIC BASTASA

Notes For 2018

sometimes i get
misjudged
but i do not mind
i perfectly understand
how is it to be
misjudged
in the same way
as they must too
understand
how i misjudge them

it is not unusual that
i spill
and misspell abyss for
abys
i guess it is just a typographical
error
or i forgive this competition between
my eyes and my fingers

some part of us want to be
magicians
others as well want to become
orthodox priests
and you have to tolerated
all these self-righteousness
which have duly
cemented their whole
system

God forgives
and so must I.
And so here i am
playing again
God to you.

you have to understand
my mistakes
do not ask about
explanations
do not ask about
backgrounds
for there will be
none

i live my life
and you must live yours
i have so many dreams
and so many hopes
despite
i do not care much
since i live mostly
only for this
moment

typing a poem
does not entail too much
logic
because as you must
later see
it is more of feeling and
remembering

forgetting the smell sometimes
and all the other details of
the movements
turn into a haze
even a flurry
like chicken feathers
falling from
the nest of a bird
who had just obtained
its own sense of
freedom

as you see it is the
flying away that gives so much
sense
something that you will
always feel, smell, and
touch
all in slow motion in such
a way that the music
too gets
scary.
