Nothing But The Fight Remains Poem by Sven Rhoads

Nothing But The Fight Remains

I have been raked over hot coals
Beaten down to my soul
And in the end nothing seems to be enough
I have had nails through my palms
But it seems I was wrong
For ever being on the outside looking further out

And still I keep coming back for more
Curiosity must be fed for what the future has instore

My skin is stained in different shades of red
I feel the frozen wind in my every wound
There is no peace that comes into my head
For nothing but the fight remains

I have been embraced with broken glass
Lacerated by silver tongues
And though the seasons change they cycle continues on
I have been sinking in the quicksand
Reached out but found no hand
The abyss is all that I have come to know for now

And still I keep getting on my feet
I cannot win but I will never accept defeat

What is all this battle for
I'm too tired to even care but I keep going on
What is all this bleeding for
Have I not proven yet that I am one so strong

I dont sleep with the dead
Even when some wounds are self inflicted
No bullet is in my head
No dreams to come in slumber to let my mind rest

It is a sickness that I have come to adorn
The sun will rise with the call of battle horns
