Nothing Will Remain
(a poem by Shakil Ahmed)
One day will come in future
From the shade of calender
Pointing a particular day
Piercing thousand sordid days
Of lost love and withered flowers
Treading tender wings of butterflies
Sitting on the petals of blooming rose
Following the trail of silence
Not even whispering to the ripples of breeze
That day world will turn into dust
Ocean will shrink like a huge snail
Even rainbow will lose its hue
Stars will not blink
Like the glowworm of dark nights
Queen moon will not rise
To adorn the beauty of dark sky
Nimble girl will die in her lover's arm
All shapes of beauty will lose its charm
Every living creature will get lost
Like the ripples of water
Nothing will remain,
Only a huge silence will pervade
Universe will come to an end
And a new beginning will take shape
Announcing the glory of God
You needn't fear
On that day in the garden of paradise
you will find me near
Much like a thirsty dove
Begging your heart-felt love.
