Numerical Poem by Dmitry Garanin

Numerical

I am working day and night during one year
Making numerical calculations.
I hope to write a big paper,
Increase my publication list,
Maybe even my Citation Index,
Prominently feature on Google Scholar.

However, there are concerns
That my results might be wrong.
Or, if my results are correct,
They might be misinterpreted
And I am making claims
That might cost me reputation
Because the majority firmly believes in the opposite
That I don't understand.

If my results are correct and correctly interpreted,
they still might be irrelevant.
Or, if they are relevant,
they might be not new.
Or, if they are new,
they might be not so exciting,
they might be not advancing the science,
they might be not a transformative research.
If they are still new, and correct, and transformative,
some very nice people might get upset,
Because these people knew all this twenty years ago
But haven't published
Because they were busy with more important things.
