Obligatory Moon Poem Involving A Train

Rating: 4.0

you should see the moon
tonight.
It sits, a smile, perched
among stars and
constellations I can't see, but know are there,
each cusp tugged up like a smile,
the forever curve of the sky
holding it in its tired hands. The light sifting through
like summer sand.
There is something about it
that makes me long for things
I never knew I could long for,
as if maybe my hand
could reach up
and dip in the moon
shadows, retrieving the invisible desire
to watch it in my palm.
Somewhere, in the distance, I hear
a train whistle, and
the friction of the hulking
metal thing on the tracks. This,
I know,
is not what I long for.

We believe what we wish to believe until we make self-discoveries offering other possibilties. The symbolism of the train is your reality check - tracks being an assurance rather than a consequence. Apart from a specious title the poem is excellent. Rgds, Ivan
