Ocean Odyssey Poem by Holly Jamestone

Ocean Odyssey

If we were to dive in the ocean
Swim beneath the coral reefs
Descend beneath anywhere ever visited
And find that, defying all science, we could breathe freely

We would spend as much time as we wanted to
Looking at all the tropical fish
Whose colors are more than any rainbow
Would or could memorize

We’d sink for hours, lower and lower
Beneath the crust of the ocean floor until
A manhole greets us with its copper cover
As we curiously lift the lid and find ourselves

Along the shore where it all began
Back at our picnic table, undisturbed
Our sand and our adventure our own
Secret in our pockets
