Ode To My Hometown Poem by Eugene Mattingly

Ode To My Hometown

I didn't know it at the time,
but living in Durant - was just fine,
as close to heaven as you could get,
the times we had I can't forget.

even in the classroom, it was hard to study,
my mind was elsewhere, with my buddy,
the teachers they didn't understand,
there was more to life than the history of man.

Go, Lions Go was the shout,
beating ADA was what is was all about,
we didnt always win, and we lost a few
but the spirit of DHS was all we knew.

Friday nights were the must fun,
when on the 'drag' we did run,
looking for friends we hoped to see,
meet me at Sherrer's
that's where I'll be.

At the Durant drugstore
sipping on a Twerp,
No better place to be,
on this big earth.
