Ode To Writing Poem by Alexandro Johns

Ode To Writing

Reality doesn't exist
without promising words:
If Homer had not written the Odyssey
Ulises would never have returned home.

Absent the poetry of Shakespeare
Romeo and Juliet would escape
from the sweet poison of kisses
and they would become an old couple
in a frosty marriage bed.

If Cervantes had not laughed
at his own miseries
Don Quixote would have wakened
safe and without ideals
when his sad figure clashed
with the furious windmills.

So with words we live
as children that enjoy stories.
Changing the real world
we learn to be its spell
in the paradise of gods and demons
with the compassion and hate
from inmortal people.
In this way we become
slaves, loving of writing.
