Of Equality Between The Sexes

Of equality between the sexes
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I am not a cynic but believe in the goodness of love
And marriage which I say in jest, is a necessary evil,
I do not think that love is an overdone thing
But is instead the thread of society;

If love is the thread of society
I rue the fact that it blinds us
But without those blinkers
We would be lost children of God;

Being the children of God and science and engineering
We believe in the goodness of feminism and equality between sexes
If I have always been in the shadow of my successful husband
In spite of having equal standing, well almost, in education,
It has become a little stale
The freshness of the feminine feminist ideology;

The freshness of the feminist ideology
Can be felt in old literature
And the nicest aspect of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice
Is the fact that Portio is a lawyer who defends Antonio, her betrothed's friend;

If Portio defended Antonio successfully in court
Today's question is if she was paid equally well
Which brings me to the US Open Championship
That paid the lady winner, Bianca Andreescu, in equal amounts to
The male winner, Raphael Nadal;

If the male winner, Raphael Nadal,
Worked a little harder and it was not quite
Equal work for equal pay as the law demands in other fields
I say that it is good to be aware
That women are also biologically, the weaker sex.

Acknowledgements:
1. My unknown correcter on PoemHunter who sent me an email to say that I was wrongly categorising some of my poems as Chain verse and gave me the definition which I checked out. Chain verse is like an interlinked chain. The ending of one is the beginning of the other verse. I looked at a couple of examples and came out with this poem.
