Of Killarney Road Rovers Poem by Francis Duggan

Of Killarney Road Rovers

In Winter in the Kerry League every second Sunday
In Neily Duggan's Inch Field they used to play
Most of the Killarney Road Rovers players were in their prime then
But the youthful of the eighties are no longer young men

In the green countryside just west of Millstreet Town
Where old clara Mountain forever looks down
No Kerry league games in the Inch Field today
Time with it brings changes only true to say

Migration and time on the Rovers club took toll
As well as ageing a thing beyond human control
And only the memories are left to retain
Of the what used to be but will not be again

Some who played for Killarney Road Rovers from Duhallow live far away
And some of them where the deceased are do lay
And of the ageing former Rovers players only memories live on
Of their better years in the forever gone

Time to most things does become a foe
Killarney Road Rovers a Millstreet Soccer Club of three decades ago
Today only live as a memory
Of the long gone years in the what used to be.
