Of Some Long Deceased People Poem by Francis Duggan

Of Some Long Deceased People

Of some long deceased people I have known nice things I cannot say
Since when living they did not use their power on a fair or good way
Of any good stories of them I do not have to tell
Perhaps they are not now where angels do dwell

In life for their subordinates any respect they did not show
They did not live as good people this much of them I do know
Those under their power who are living today
Of them as one would expect does not have nice things to say

Many in life who use their power in a negative way
Are at peace with the World and with themselves today
It is true that one should not speak ill of the dead
But of those who cause others to suffer whilst living nice things ought not to be said

Where silence and peace is they forever lay
They are at peace with themselves and the World today
In life those under their power they did not treat well
Perhaps they are not now where angels do dwell.
