Oh How Far Poem by Casey Gochnour

Oh How Far

Oh how far you are, not by heart but by skin,
As I lay curled up thinking how you’ve been.
So far, yet you’re always in my head,
Wanting so much for you to be in my bed.

I’m jealous of the morning sun that sees you every day,
As it kisses your cheek and lips as I wish I may.
I’m jealous of the blankets that hold you tight,
As they wrap you in their warmth as I wish to do every night.

I don’t want to have to text or call you,
You know what I’d rather do?
Have you here in my arms while I hold your hand,
So I can feel your breath, hear your heart, and...

Ah, how I just want to be with you, right now and forever,
I want you here for our forever endeavor.
But I’ve forbid my fear, I know your soul is always near,
You’re in my breath, my words, you always appear.

It’s 2am on a cold autumn night,
In the sky once more, your light shines bright.
Remember that poem? You know what I mean,
My shining moon, my beautiful queen.

You’re always on my mind, you really are…
And sometimes when I think, you don’t seem very far.
You fascinate me, I stare off into nothing and see,
Your wondrous guise looking back at me.

The wind is blowing strongly and it reminds me of when,
The bridge was shaking, I know you remember then.
When I took your hand and helped you walk,
You followed along despite your obvious shock.

Lovely times, truly they were,
And many more have been made, for sure.
And there are still many more to come,
Tomorrow, next week, and then some.

I await your return while I’m head over heels,
Patiently adjusting to how this feels.
I was worried at first, but I know you’re fine,
Knowing forever that you’ll always be mine.
