Oh Mama Hear My Cry... Poem by Almedia Knight-Oliver

Oh Mama Hear My Cry...

Little child where are you?
Today, I'm broken in two; a part wanting
to remain a child and time holds her hand
leading her toward the future

Child, I need your carefree mind to help
the aged-one get through each day
I'm so happy our paths did cross to
tell me where to find myself again

Oh mama hear my cry; are you still there?
Somehow I know you're somewhere
I'm old and needs a peace of mind
to sooth and take away my pain

I can't wait much longer, this old body is shrinking
I can't wait much longer, I can't wait much longer

I used to spend day after day cursing time, but now
all past days are the currency I saved during my life
I spent some, saved some, and shared with others
I am ready to leave this world behind.

My old hands can hardly write
My voice is still as I fade away
Oh Mama, I'll soon be there to lie
Safely within your arm again.
