Oh Man Poem by Ann McKinley

Oh Man

Rating: 5.0

Oh man
How thoughts start to spin
When it has been so long since you've let anyone in
Inside your mind to hear your loneliest thoughts
Inside your soul to caress and to love
When was the last time you've spoken to a friend?
Had a good cry and let everything inside
Come screaming out
How long has it been since you've held someone's hand?
That did not belong to your kin
How long has it been since you've let anyone in?
To fight your battles with you
Instead of wielding Excalibur solo.
Is it because of the guilt you carry?
That makes you not want to be happy
But instead make everyone else
Feel like you are committed to them
While you, you continue to not let anyone in?
To padlock your heart and mind so selfishly
You remain unhappy
For the fear of explosion and blame.
For the time remaining.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It has been years since I have written even the smallest of poems. My focus has been being a mother and a student. I will continue that journey. But I have neglected my writing. I do not know if it is actually Free Verse. And I am going to try to write more poems as this was, is, and has been my sole outlet.
