Oh! What A Glorious Day! Poem by Jeremy Nel

Oh! What A Glorious Day!

As I step outside into the fresh new day
I note the spring blossoms sway
Gently in the breeze
That heralds this new dawn
Peeking over the hills, gently, like a shy young fawn.

Along the road the buildings silently line
The streets bathed in the gentle light
Of the pre-dawn glow
That steals across the sky with drama
Its luminance across this quiet panorama.

The sky is oh so blue
And the wispy clouds are coloured with a pinky hue
Their glorious radiance coaxing the shy sun
To come out to play
And light up earth with its gentle warming ray

Across the bay even the fog seems gentle
As it silently coats the sea with its damp mantle.
Quietly shielding those it enfolds
Within its cloak, as it waits playfully
For the sun to melt its shield away.

Oh that a call could change how I see
The sights I view each day!
She said she loved me!
Such sweet words, I swear
That coaxed mine eye with gentle tear

How is it then that these few words
Hold the power that they do?
They wield the magic of the ages
That captivated souls, sweet gentleness befell
Cast upon their captives this mystical spell

So now I too am enslaved
By these beguiling words offered
So sweetly by your tender voice
Such sweet innocence! Deep within my soul
Emotions long forgotten stirred, unfold

And the day just seemed so glorious
As my loving eyes adorned the views
With gentle colours and emotions
That painted all in exquisite delight
As though your words had restored my sight!
