Old Warriors Poem by Dorsey Baker

Old Warriors

Old warriors
When coming together
They mumble
Things in secret
Never talking aloud
Old warrior
Like rabbits too weak to run

Old warriors
Become tipsy
Thinking thoughts
Of battles once fought
And won
Now become drunk with
False courage
And pride

Old warriors
No laughter is heard
Coming from their belly
Hungry for becoming
A very big shot

Salty tears bloodshot eyes
Their faces show
The wear and tear of the
Aging process

Old warriors
On the warpath
Trying to be what they once was
But in their hearts
They know fully well
That they will never be
