On A Rainy Night Poem by Gert Strydom

On A Rainy Night

On a rainy night with a gunmetal sky
I saw crisp leaves fly in the wind,
but your laughter was like a ray of light

and although the night was corroding
and the leaves were the colour of rust
we danced jolly in the rain that was falling

close against each other, just you and I
and lightning falling like gun flashes
lighted the street while we ran
to the porch of our house

where drops of rain shined
like jewels in your hair
and the hot fireplace was quite welcoming
and your passionate kisses were sweet
and we were without a care
while the fresh smell of the rain was everywhere.
