On Fraud (By St. Thiruvalluvar) Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

On Fraud (By St. Thiruvalluvar)

281.If you want to live not being accused of stealing goods
Protect your mind from conspiring to defraud others.
282.Even to think in mind to rob is sinful.
Don’t think to filch the goods of others by deceit.
283.The wealth gained by theft seems to grow
But it perishes soon beyond all bounds.
284.The inveterate lust to plunder yields its ripe fruit
An unceasing pain.
285.There is no grace and love in them
Who wait for evil hours to steal the goods of others.
286.They who have an intense desire to steal
Will not live firmly within the prescribed limits.
287.Those who long to live within the great moral bounds
Do not have the darker artifices of looting.
288.In the hearts knowing limits of moral codes virtue dwells.
But in the hearts of those who burgle, deceit swells.
289.Those who know not other good arts but the theft-lore
Perish at the instant of committing excesses.
290.The robbers fail to enjoy the delights of this world.
Those who don’t embezzle enjoy even the bliss of heaven.

The robbers fail to enjoy the delights of this world. Those who don’t embezzle enjoy even the bliss of heaven. Verily, shame awaits for the robbers
